I'm not dead!

Winter colds suck I'm sure, except I hardly get them. Instead I suffer from sinus, an infection that leaves me hating my nasal passages and sounding like a smoker in the mornings due to all the phlegm. I wont gross you out with the details, here is what is new with me:
1. I've become obsessed with Pride and Prejudice
Which woman doesn't love Jane Austen and her fabulous novel which has inspired many adaptions. Since Alice in wonderland parties are becoming mainstream and thus vogue (sigh), and Victorian clothing has the subculture of steampunk, it seems natural that the regency gowns which so many women claim to love, should make a comeback. Maybe it's because they make even the most fabulous figures look preggers?
Anyway I have always loved the BBC version, during my week of sickness where nature decided to pour all the rain it could down from the heavens, I snuggled up with a blanket, some green tea, and watched Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet chemistry sizzle. Note: perhaps you can expect a review on Lizzy soon? I thought she had a few bitchtastic moments and would love to explore them.
I've started reading the book since I've wanted to know what details it adds which wasn't in the BBc version. Also, I didn't like the 2006??? version with Keira Knightly. It just couldn't compare with the fabulousness of the BBC version.
I do, however, enjoy Bride and Prejudice, mainly for the guy who plays Mr Kohli (Mr Collins) I always laugh when hearing him talk about the Jacuzzi and how it has 'superjets' - watch it for this guy alone!.
2. My Birthday
After turning 21 last year, I'm more than happy to stop having birthdays. It's such a hassle to plan parties so this year I'm heading home for some R&R tomoz. Maybe my man will have something planned for the day I turn the dreaded 2-2?
3. I want to write a
book novel
Writing novels is never something I'd aspired to do. However, I wouldn't mind giving fantasy a shot even if just for the lols. I really enjoyed reading The Night Circus recently, and would be jonesed if I could write something half as good.
Speaking of novels, I've been making an effort to read fiction books. I'm currently going through 1984, by George Orwell, and Pride and Prejudice. Hopefully I can finish up soon and move on to Treasure Island, The perks of being a wallflower (the movie comes out soon, and anything else I can find.
I checked out the
Finders Keepers markets which came to over here last weekend and picked up
two adorable blank page books from
Paperboat Press. Hopefully I can fill them with all sorts of whimsy.
Stay excellent dearies and I'll see you again soon.

Meet my new ride
Sunday, June 24, 2012
Where have I been, you ask? Riding around on this:
Given that I don't have a car
because I haven't gotten my P's getting a bike is a great way for me to travel further without having to rely on public transport. By the way, It isn't a fixie as it has 6 gears. I don't know how people can ride up hills without gears. My bike is one heavy sucker (14kg!)and while I've been doing well braving hills, I've still had to walk up a few. The thing I like best about it is how it makes doing a grocery run so quick! Which is awesome because I think I'm getting a cold and need something salty so I'll grab some salty chips to keep me going.
My only hesitation about the bike is how cheap it is. I'm hoping it lasts longer than a year at least. I would like to enter a charity ride with it, and be one of the few cyclists not completely clad out in lycra. Tee hee.
Also, I'm on holidays! Actually I have been enjoying the last two weeks as my holidays as well as I didn't have exams! Since I am officially on holidays now, hopefully I'll post some more.

Ordinary moments
Sunday, June 3, 2012
Don't you just love those everyday moments that feel so magical?
I know that the interwebs has been catching fire (geddit?) about rumors that
Robert Pattinson was going to play Finnick Odair in the next Hunger Games movie.
Everyone was getting heated up until
R-Patz himself quelled the whispering.
I feel sorry for the poor guy, why is no one making a big deal over surly Kirsten Stewart starring/
in the new Snow White flick?
While walking up to campus I was mulling over this scandal and had my own Hunger Games moment.
I was thinking about Rue's song which the Mockingjays mimic and heard the happy chirps of the
birds in trees above me. How many times have I walked past them, not caring to hear their carefully
crafted songs? I felt like such a fangirl when I realised that I could picture tributes running through
the bush around campus. They would certainly have enough turkeys to eat.
Now I want the official Mockingjay pin after seeing
Taylor Swift's Safe and Sound Video. I find this video
so amazing! I want to make a copy of the dress she wears (it is a vintage piece) and wander barefoot, singing loudly. Also I enjoy
Hillywood's Hunger Games parody, check it out if you haven't already seen it - those sisters so clever
I had another magical-yet-ordinary moment skyping with my boyfriend's sister. It's so amazing to be
able to stay in contact so easily nowadays!
I hope you all enjoy many magical-yet-ordinary moments today

Been getting my needle work on!

Sooo, after my post about loneliness I realised it's my turn to contact a friend of mine who
lives in South Korea. I also wanted to send her a birthday present but
am poor and lazy didn't
quite get around to it in time. Nonetheless I still want to send her a gift for her 'unbirthday' perhaps.
Buying gifts is great but I'm giving a go at making her something. It's a great way to use my time
I ususally spend procrastinating.
I've been inspired by the
365 Lucky days blog and thought I'd try something similar but make a pic of my friend instead.Without further ado, Here is the finished product. Do you like it?
The girl doesn't really look like her but I'm still happy with it. Along with learning more about sewing, knitting, embroidery, I would also like to learn how to draw realistic images. I can do cartoon
characters okay enough (except hands) but I'd love to be able to draw my friends.
Go forth you talented people and continue to learn!

Autumn is almost at an end

Winter is here! I'm not sure which day is the first day of winter but it's close enough!
While I still love sewing, I decided to try and learn how to knit so I can start making some
lovely goodies. Right now I'm in love with patterns from
tinyowlknits.
Hopefully I can learn quickly enough to finish one of the patterns before winter is over. Stephanie Dosen is so talented,
I have no head for knitting so far (I can now do a stocking stitch so that is progress!) and I can't believe the patterns for such delightful creations are only $5.50!
(Maybe I'm taking on too much with this one?)
I can only imagine the adventures Mr Fox and I would have carousing around together.
I hope you are snuggled up with pretty quilts or are enjoying the sunshine where ever you are!

Loneliness.. the new epidemic?
Wednesday, May 23, 2012
Sorry I haven't updated for a while. I'm always so excited to start a new blog,
write up a new post, and then I'm not sure when/what to update about.
I'm hoping to find a different skin that let's me archive posts and add tags.
So maybe you'll see some changes soon:)
I've been feeling a little lonely lately. It's funny how I'm blogging about this
since social media is being attributed to the growing percentage of lonely young
adults.
In Australian schools, if you are alone or without friends you are labelled a 'nigel',
'lonely nigel' or 'nigel no friends'. I remember this term being used among my friend group
as a term of endearment during high school. It's sad that there is such a stigma around
being alone.
I used to think in order to make friends, you needed to have something in common.
I struggled s to feel close to the group of kids I sat with during high school as
few people were interested in Japan and japanese pop culture. Despite this, I grew
in confidence during my senior years and had a memorable time.
When I started my years at Griffith Uni, I assumed making friends would be easier.
With such a diverse group of people around me, finding people to talk to should
be easier. So many adults echoed these thoughts. Many said how they still keep in
contact with the friends they made during their uni years.
When I found myself struggling to make friends in my classes, I honestly thought
there was something wrong with me. I just want to preface all this by saying
I'm not a stalker, a creep, or an incredibly negative person. I promise.
I met a fun group of friends (including my boyfriend of 2 years) through a
christian group on campus. I became a christian myself, though that's not
what I'm writing about here. In my fourth year, I've often wondered if I would have
made friends I still keep in contact with apart from that club.
This year I found
this article, which
echoed my experience exactly.
According to the 2011 Relationships Australia survey which polled 1204 Australians over the age of 18,
people aged 25-34 are most likely to be lonely at 27 per cent. Young adults aged 18-24 aren't far behind
with 19 per cent feeling 'frequently lonely'. These surprising statistics challenge the idea that the elderly
are society's loneliness (I'm glad to see all the retired people are social butterflies)
What is more surprising is 42 per cent of those who used an average of four methods to communicate (such as e-mail,
SMS, Facebook, Twitter) were lonely compared to an average of 11 percent who used online one. Even with all
our instant communication, we are lonelier than ever.
Let's change this together. Let's write people a handwritten letter instead of e-mailing them. I loved receiving letters
as a child, and e-mails just aren't the same. I have a couple of friends who are overseas at the moment and I really want
to send them 'care packs' with letters, silly things like stickers and bubble wrap. Let's also make an effort to have a
coffee with those around us without checking our phones half the time. Let's use our manners and treat strangers kindly.
You don't have to be their best friend, but it makes the world a nicer place.
But first I think I'll plan a ladies craft day. Except for this, I will use facebook :p
Hope you all stay excellent.

It's so nice to see the Sun again
Saturday, April 28, 2012
Welcome to my blog. I hope to share things that inspire and amaze me.
I love craft and creating things. I love nature as well as curling up
at home. I hope to find beauty in everything.
I called this blog 'eternal days of summer' because it's usually
very sunny and hot in Australia. I also called it that because I'm
in my last year of university and so my long summer holidays that
I've enjoyed during my years as a student will come to a close.
I hope that while I'll have to grow up some more, maybe work 9 till 5,
and will have to look at getting a car or house, that I still will make
time to lie on the grass and stare at the sky.
Australia has very unique flora and fauna. It has character and charm,
but I've longed to wander through the forests of Europe. Today while
walking to my University, I took the time to enjoy the sight of the
trees covering me in their shade.
I know these days will have to come to an end. I just hope to enjoy
it all and make memories that last.
